Nat: 1 cape, 2 dresses, swimmers, tote bag and a cute ring. All round, Claire and I had a pretty successful day at the Finders Keepers markets. In my defence I was a little over excited at having gotten my first pay cheque as a Real pharmacist :p
Claire: The tote bag was a birthday present for my friend J And yeah right Nat, you bought just as much stuff last time.
N &C: We are starting to become regulars at this event and it’s good to see it growing and becoming more and more popular. We love to see local Australian talent appreciated. We don’t have time to tell you about every cute store there (and hell, it’s just easier if you go there and check it out yourself.) So here’s a little commentary on our favourite stalls!
C: In the first Studio Nat & I met Courtney Brims! She had a stall selling her prints and was very modest & lovely. I’ve been a fan of her illustrations since she won one of the Mooks Art space competitions.
N: My first purchase was the mini cape at The Gently Unfurling Sneak.
C: Yeah, she looks like a hot Beatrix Potter.
N: This cute royal blue number is likely to star in many of my winter outfits (shhh I know it’s coming into summer but my love for this thing knows no seasons k?) Like many of the stalls today, a lot of their stuff had an eco theme.
C: The Gently Unfurling Sneak also had some awesome mixed media works on canvases. A lot of the artworks included altered images of old style “proper” ladies & gentlemen, but with funny names attached to them.
N: Lime drops had some really interesting stuff. The pop out earrings blew my mind! The Ra Ra Superstar dresses were so cute I couldn’t pick one (hence I got both). These designers create lovely 80′s style dresses (with puff sleeves and all) out of recycled and vintage fabrics. A word to the wise though, while A line skirts are the best for giving you a killer figure and making your lover’s heart go thump, when running up stairs, either wear bike pants, leggings or hold ur skirt :p I learned that the hard way (o^_^o). Good news for Brisbanites here, Ra Ra Superstar have a store in Paddington. Check ‘em out!
C: We both noticed there were more clothing stalls this time around. Or maybe it just felt that way because Nat bought more clothes than jewellery this time. Either way we were pleasantly surprised to find a swimmer stall in there.
N: My last purchase I was so stoked about cos I have been looking for swimmers for forever! Sanoii + Six are a couple of really nice girls who make some super sweet swim wear. They have a lot of striped and floral themes which are totally different to the beachy stuff you find in every other swim wear store… The padding in the boob area was a plus for me too :p
N & C: So we’ll stop talking now, just enjoy the photos! If you’re reading this on Sunday the 7th of Nov, quick! You can still make it. If not, never fear, with its increasing popularity, we’re sure it’ll be back soon. Even if you’re too poor or not a fan of shopping, there’s food stalls, live music and a nice chill atmosphere all packed into the beautiful venue that is the old museum. Can’t wait for the next one.
